Week 8: November 23rd, 2022- The first part of Don't Look Up

 

- To warm up for today's film we exchanged the different clues/definitions you had written for your vocabulary on films.

- We watched the first 66 minutes of Don't Look Up and briefly discussed some of its main characteristics.

- We completed the gaps of an exercise of Don't Bring Me Down, one of the songs belonging to the film's soundtrack.

Week 7: 16th November, 2022- COP 27 in the classroom


- We voted for our representatives and revised briefly the content of the meeting between the representstives and the Head of Studies.
- We revised what to do in case of an emergency evacuation.
- We decided on our film for the Film Festival: Don't Look Up! in two days
- We talked about your investigation with the cards on COP27: Greta Thunberg, Sharm El-Sheikh, Francisco Vera, IPCC, 
- We listened to a part of António Guterres's speech in the conference and completed an exercise.
-Next day we're watching Don't Look Up.

Homework:
- Write the description for the clues of the part of the cinema vocabulary crossword I gave you. If you didn't come, here you have the crossword, choose one part and write the clues you want to give for your partner to guess your adjectives.

Week 6: November 9th, 2022- Grammar for narrating

 

- We remembered all the mysteries we had seen the previous day.
- We checked the answers for the crossword on creepy vocabulary.
- We read about a dangerous moment in Lost at Sea.
- We revised the use of narrative tenses.
- We practised them with three grammar exercises and a guided speaking practice.

- We got to know about the possibility of going to the cinema to Coslada on November 23rd to see Armageddon Time.

Homework:
- Prepare some notes: Think of a dangerous situation that you or someone you know was in, or it could be something you know about a book or film. Make notes about it so that you can tell your classmate at the beginning of class. Think about: where and when it took place, who was involved, what the background to the story was, what the main events were, how the person felt and what the outcome was. Try to use different narrative tenses.

- We are also doing some research about COP27, you got different cards to read about so you can tell us: if you didn't come to class you can choose from these options to read and tell us about one of these next class: COP 25, meaning of COP27, COP 21, greenwashing and COP27.

Week 5: November 2nd, 2022- Mysterious mysteries after Halloween

 

- We warmed up explaining some of the pics from the long weekend we had in our phones.
- We saw the first three mysteries of the video Top 10 Creepiest Mysteries You've Never Heard of
- We told the stories of two short videos: Bite Size Horror The Lake and The Lift.
- We read and identified the titles of some terror film summaries.
- In pairs, we built up a terror story made of clichés.

Homework: do the crossword of creepy words and the grammar exercises of narrative tenses.

Week 4: October 26th, 2022- Our stories

 

- In pairs, we told each other our anecdotes, paying attention to the structure of the stories with a setting, development and conclusion.
- In small groups we spoke about the words related to Halloween that your teacher had given you the previous day.
- We saw a video on the celebration of Halloween and answered a multiple choice exercise.
- We read a text about TV series and saw the IT Crowd episode The Haunting of Bill Crouse.
- We exchanged the structures that we had pìcked from the episode, the ones we already understood, didn't use but want to start using.

Homeweork: Record a file telling the story of the episode we saw and send it to me for feedback.

Week 3: October 19th, 2022- Telling stories

 

- We exchanged in pairs the telling of the three jokes we had prepared.
- Here we have a video on Dramatic present, if you want to know more.
- Revision of the dictation activity we did the last class.
- Some of you told us about BBC news you had listened to.
- We did a reading and listening exercise on a Holiday Story. It gave us ideas to organise and give interest to any story.


Homework:
- I gave you a handout on vocabulary related to stories and telling stories.
- You are going to choose a story or anecdote to tell your partners, with a beginning, a middle/development and an ending. Don't write it out but have some notes prepared instead.
- You got a Halloween card to do some research about how that words connects to the celebration of Halloween.

Week 2: 5th October, 2022- Revising verb tenses for narration

- We got to know each other a little bit by drawing the information in a circle.
- We exchanged information about our hobbies.
- We saw a short film about learning a language and discussed our best learning strategies.
- We did a speaking exercise to revise the verb system.
- We started the dictation of a story about neighbours.

Homework:
- Record and send a bit of the photocopy I gave you. You can use Vocaroo and send it to gema.mazon@educa.madrid.org
- Prepare the telling of a joke I gave you. Remember: use dramatic present!!
